Five New Teacher Join the Burrell Staff

The Burrell Education Association is pleased to welcome a group of fresh faces to our schools for the 2018-2019 school year!

Mr. Jay Miller is joining the staff of Huston Middle School as a Special Education teacher.  A graduate of Slippery Rock University, Mr. Miller grew up on a dairy farm and played baseball in college.  Originally Mr. Miller is from West Newton, PA.

Mr. Frank Nesko will be filling the Biology, Environmental Science, and Physics position that was vacated over the summer once he finishes his current commitments at Northgate High School.  Mr. Nesko graduated from Pitt but originally hails from Philadelphia.

Mrs. Amanda Pagnotta is joining the ELA department at Huston Middle School in sixth grade.  A native of Oakmont, not to mention the wife of the BHS band director, Mrs. Pagnotta graduated from Arizona State University and has previously taught for Propels Schools, Adobe Mountain School, the Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections, and Imagine Schools.  She also loves Cher.

Ms. Jennifer Shannon is a native of Greensburg and is assigned to teach third grade at Bon Air Elementary.  She attended Pitt Greensburg, St. Vincent, and Pitt Oakland, and she brings with her experience as a long-term sub in Hempfield and as a Reading Specialist for both Greensburg and Hempfield.

Ms. Hannah Stynchula grew up in Murrysville, and is a graduate of Franklin Regional.  She will be joining the staff at Huston Middle School as a Math Special Education teacher.  She is a graduate of Clarion University and brings with her long-term sub experience from Franklin Regional.  She is also marrying her best friend, Cameron Cress, on September 15, 2018!  (Congratulations from all of us!!)

We wish each of you a long and fulfilling career at Burrell, and we welcome each of you to the ranks of our Association.

Best Wishes to the Class of 2018 and Retirees! - Thursday, May 17, 2018

Best Wishes to Our Retirees!!

With the quickly approaching end of the year, we will bid farewell to several colleagues and friends, as well as the graduating class of 2018.

Third grade teacher Barb Foust and learning support teacher Deanna Querio will pack up their rooms and begin their well-deserved retirements.  Mrs. Foust joined Burrell School District in 2004.  Mrs. Querio had been with the District for several years before the District decided to no longer obtain learning support services from the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit.  She became a member of this organization in 2011 and is finishing her career at Huston Middle School.

Both of these teachers brought much expertise, professionalism, and kindness to their classrooms and we will miss them both greatly, and of course we wish them all the best.  Farewell tension, Hello pension!

Congratulations to the Class of 2018!

We also bid farewell to the graduating class of 2018!

At the Senior Awards and Scholars Celebration, held at Burrell High School on May 16, BEA Vice-President Dan Pounds presented two very deserving seniors with $1,000 scholarships.  The money was raised from selling Jeans Day Friday's across the district.  Micaela Crawford and Michael Manchini are this year's Burrell recipients.  And, as is tradition, we award one $1000 scholarship to the graduating senior of one of our own members.  Romano Giordano, son of Huston Middle School science teacher Kelly Giordano, has received his $1000 scholarship as well.

On behalf of the teachers of the Burrell Education Association, please know that your hard work, determination, and achievements have made us all very proud.  We wish the Class of 2018 all the best in creating lives filled with peace, love, happiness, and life-long learning!

Become a Partner for Public Education! Minimize
How to become a Partner for Public Education - Monday, April 13, 2015

Why are Pennsylvania’s public schools among the best in the nation? Because parents, community leaders, elected officials, and educators are working together as partners.

PSEA formed a community outreach program, Partners for Public Education to bring these partners together to provide them with information about public education policy in Pennsylvania, and to create connections with public schools in their communities.

There's no cost to join, and as a Partner, you will receive news about the schools in your community and opportunities to speak up about school funding cuts and other issues. Partners also receive discounts and savings at businesses nationwide.

To date, thousands have joined Partners for Public Education. And PSEA and BEA members are working to help partners understand the power of a great education.

Sign-up by click on the PPE icon above, and complete the short online form.

Please join us in advocating for public education in Lower Burrell and Pennsylvania!
